Added a down week for this week because of travel to Chicago. I wanted to make sure I focused on spectating the Chicago Marathon. And it did not disappoint! Unfortunately missed several of my friends on the course as I was chasing another friend, Joe Hale, on his PR attempt but I was elated to see everyone run so well and crush their goals.
A down week in mileage does not mean a down week in intensity. Big track workout on Tuesday and a long run workout on Friday. The long run opened my eyes to what I’m capable of and I am not afraid to chase my A goal for the Houston Half marathon in January – 1:18:30 (5:59/mile).
Week 14 Training Details (48 total miles):
Monday (October 3, 2022)
- I am terrible about moving on rest days
- I made a deliberate goal to reach 10K steps through dedicated walks (2.6 miles on Monday)
Tuesday (October 4, 2022)
- Missed my opportunity to start early so I did my 2-mile tempos on the track, which helped keep the pace consistent and fast
- I kept the 200s consistent to make sure I had enough energy for the last 2-mile tempo
- I felt fresher than expected so I bumped the pace to sub 6 and I closed out the tempo with a 5:46 mile!
Wednesday (October 5, 2022)
- Early bird miles with Matt and Jodi
- A fun loop and love discovering new routes
Thursday (October 6, 2022)
- More easy miles to keep the legs fresh for the big long run on Friday
Friday (October 7, 2022)
- All I can say is WOW!!!
- 13 total tempo miles for an 18-mile long run
- The first 8-mile set felt tougher than I wanted but everything felt better after the 1-mile threshold surprisingly
- 18 miles is more than I want for a long run but a couple of extra miles didn’t hurt anybody 🙂
Saturday (October 8, 2022)
- Tracksmith shake-out run with the marathoners
- Wishing Mark the best of luck before the marathon
Sunday (October 9, 2022)
- Chasing Joe Hale through the Chicago Marathon course
- Saw him 5 different times and got to witness the women’s American marathon record broken (2:18:32 for Emily Sisson!)
