The soreness in my right leg was pretty bad to start the week. It was another tough week, but I stayed consistent with another 40-mile week. I skipped the track workout on Tuesday and took it easy. I couldn’t get my sports massage scheduled for Friday so another rest day was the best I could do. Things starting to feel better during the Saturday long run.
Speaking of consistency, I lack consistency in the foam rolling and strength training department. I don’t have any free weights at home, and I know I can still do much with my body weight. I am making a more deliberate and conscious effort every chance I have. 5 to 10 minutes here and there adds up. While I wait to schedule an appointment with a chiropractor and/or sports massage, I will be cautious about my weekly buildup.
Week 6 Training Details:
Monday (August 8, 2022)
- Another Monday afternoon run in 100+ degree weather. Nothing eventful here
Tuesday (August 9, 2022)
- How quickly a week changes everything. Last week I felt great during my interval workout, but that’s life right?
- Easy miles while I figure out what is going on with my right leg and right knee
Wednesday (August 10, 2022)
- I didn’t want to push the pace, but I wanted my stride to feel more “normal”
- I notice my stride is almost awkwardly short when I am running 9:30/mile or slower
- Right leg still felt weird but better than the other days
Thursday (August 11, 2022)
- I hate to admit it but the soreness and knee pain was not good after last week’s long run
- It was back to the normal tempo schedule this week, but I was persuaded to help pace a 2-mile tempo run at sub 6:00 minute pace
- The tempo felt fine…for a mile and I threw in the towel lol. I gave it a good go and mailed it in.
Friday (August 12, 2022)
- Rest day
- I had planned to visit the Castle Hill peeps before massage but it ended up needing to be Re. So rest day it is!
Saturday (August 13, 2022)
- Cut back on the long run mileage to see how the right leg would feel
- I wouldn’t say I was 100% but I wasn’t miserable either
- Pace started to pick up after the lake loop and decided to go for a 3-mile fast finish
- Min/mile split times for last 3 miles: 6:57, 6:39, 6:31
Sunday (August 14, 2022)
- Recovery day on the trails
- First time visiting Cedar Ridge Preserver. It was very busy but it was a beautiful trail
- Recovery trails on Sunday were needed. I was out of my element but I enjoyed doing something new
