I was optimistic about my mileage goal this week. I wanted another 60+ mile week before taking another down week. But a trip to Cancun for a destination wedding put a wrinkle on training. I was committed to running on the treadmill in the resort gym, even for the long run.
Alas, that was wishful thinking and the late nights caught up to me. 41 miles for the week was disappointing, but it happens. Time to get back on track for Week 5. Another trip this week, but I will move my long run to Friday so I can put the running behind me. Although the weather in Montana should be much nicer for running!
Week 4 Training Details:
Monday (July 25, 2022)
- Another Monday run with 100+ degree temps. A nice surprise on the Katy Trail – seeing a friend from the Boston Marathon.
- Glad he could join Train Pegasus for the track and tempo workouts. Always love chasing more people during workout days. It makes hard workouts more manageable.
Tuesday (July 26, 2022)
- Slept in but still got my track workout done in the morning. It was a slow start on the 2-minute reps. Should be closer to 10K pace, but stayed within the half marathon pace range
- Finally got my 1-minute paces within 5K pace. I skipped the 30-second fast reps due to time but I felt good about the workout. I like these intervals for training.
Wednesday (July 27, 2022)
- Some bonus miles before Luke’s social run to get close to 10 miles. A nice easy day before a big Thursday workout.
Thursday (July 28, 2022)
- Goal workout was 4 miles at marathon pace, 2 x 800M, 4 x 400M, and 2 miles at marathon pace. I got through most of the workout but I was 1 of 2 on the closing marathon pace set.
- I downplayed it, but I was pumped after this workout. My first 4-mile set was pretty even in pacing and I felt very controlled.
- It’s the biggest workout of the block so far. I also added a few miles on the treadmill after checking into my room.
Friday (July 29, 2022)
- Yet again I get convinced to another 5 am start time for 10 miles. I needed to keep the pace more steady and relaxed so I can be ready for Saturday’s long run.
- The pace might have been a bit much but it didn’t jeopardize my long run.
Saturday (July 30, 2022)
- Rest day
- Should’ve dialed it back after the rehearsal dinner but got carried away with the rest of the wedding party and friends. Woke up with some pretty bad cramps and slept in to bring my A-game to the ceremony & reception.
Sunday (July 31, 2022)
- Rest day
- Another long night of fun after the ceremony. A recurring theme but celebrating one of my best friends getting married is a memory of a lifetime.
- 4:00 am wake-up call to pack and take the shuttle back to the airport. Returned home around 12:30 pm and the Sunday Scaries were in full force
