51 miles for week 1 fell short of my expectations, but I’m not wholly disappointed. A busy work week was affecting my sleep. There are no excuses because the summer heat will not let up anytime soon. To be consistent, I must maintain my discipline and attack my morning runs.
I eased into my training on Tuesday with 1K repetitions and on Thursday with 2-minute intervals. Due to the heat, I’m trying to avoid longer tempo sessions this training cycle, but I’ll assess after each week. I have written out an 18-week plan for the cycle. As the saying goes, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”
An honest assessment after each week and recalibrating workouts to my current fitness are critical to a successful marathon training block.
